PJ Hegarty was commissioned by Bon Secours Health System to carry out a major refurbishment and extension project on this private hospital on the banks of the River Lee in Cork, which saw a significant upgrade to the North Block and St. Mary’s Ward plus the addition of a hospital kitchen-restaurant.

The new block extension includes a new Critical Care Unit, Inpatient Wards, an Oncology Day Ward, and a Recovery Room, while eight existing operating theatres were completely upgraded. The project also included a bridge link and hospital accommodation with more than 80 private rooms. PJ Hegarty carried out all associated and ancillary works and provided extensive landscaping.

The hospital remained live during all phases of construction requiring close coordination with partners to manage public access and site works traffic, as well as ensuring strict adherence to safety measures including infection control.
