PJ Hegarty has appointed Barry Dodd as Managing Director UK where he will oversee a business with a projected turnover of £110m this year.

Barry joined PJ Hegarty in 1998 and played a key role in the successful launch of the UK business in 2010 with a focus on civil engineering and industrial projects. Since then, he has helped scale the business in the UK.

With more than 500 employees, PJ Hegarty is a leading company in large-scale construction with operations in Ireland and the UK. It had a turnover in excess of €500m in 2025.

The company, noted for innovation and operational excellence, is active across aviation, civils, renewable energy, industrial, waste management, energy from waste, pharmaceutical, and specialist sectors.

In the UK, current and recent works include HS2, Sizewell C and Gatwick Airport as well as large private pharma projects.
One of PJ Hegarty’s largest contracts to date in the UK is HS2 Pumping Stations, located in the West Midlands, between Birmingham and Coventry. These significant works are required to manage surface water runoff and groundwater flows from railway tracks during a one-in-1,000-year storm event.
PJ Hegarty is contributing to the delivery of Sizewell C, a major new nuclear power station that supports the UK Government’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The company is also delivering a number of projects at Gatwick Airport, demonstrating PJ Hegarty UK’s capability in delivering complex aviation infrastructure in a live airport environment.

PJ Hegarty, which marked its 100th anniversary in Ireland last year, has also appointed Maurice Killeen as Managing Director for Ireland. The company believes these strategic appointments will further boost a a progressive business with a firm focus on safety, sustainability, responsible procurement, and diversity and inclusion.

Barry Dodd, Managing Director, PJ Hegarty UK, said:

“Having been part of PJ Hegarty for more than 25 years and involved in the growth of our UK business since its launch in 2010, it is a real privilege to take on the role of Managing Director for PJ Hegarty UK. We have built a strong reputation in the market by delivering complex projects safely, collaboratively and to a high standard. My focus now is on supporting our people, strengthening our client relationships, and continuing to grow the business in a way that reflects the values and ambition of PJ Hegarty.”
