Echo Romeo Rapid Exit Taxiway at London Gatwick Airport

The Echo Romeo Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET) at London Gatwick Airport has been successfully completed, allowing for an efficient aviation expertise. The airside project improves aircraft movement efficiency at Europe’s busiest single-runway airport, serving over 40 million passengers annually and remains in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The project was completed in February 2024, following an extensive construction process that navigated working in a live airport environment both holding our own safety standards and aviation safety procedures. We are proud to have successfully delivered the new RET Echo Romeo Runway on schedule while maintaining health and safety standards and no disruptions to air services

At Rivenhall Western Slope, our team was tasked with stabilising and regrading a large embankment composed of loose, wet quarry material to support the ongoing construction of the Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF). These works were critical to ensuring a secure, durable foundation adjacent to the active quarry and to establishing permanent access infrastructure for the IWMF. The project required meticulous excavation, soil nailing, and re-compaction using clay arisings from the IWMF bunker, producing a stable slope and an essential access route to support the facility’s long-term operational needs.

Our team successfully completed enabling works at the Rivenhall SDW1 site to prepare for the Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) construction. The project involved extensive groundwork, infrastructure, and soil stabilisation measures necessary to allow the IWMF EPC contractor to begin construction. The scope of works included constructing 2.2km of permanent roads, an expansive working platform, and essential drainage and service ducting infrastructure. The completion of these preparatory works has set the foundation for the efficient development of the IWMF, a significant facility dedicated to modern waste management solutions.

The ESB head office building on Fitzwilliam Street Lower is a stunning new commercial building in the heart of Dublin city centre. The 45,000m² development comprises two commercial office buildings with  the protected historic Georgian houses on Mount Street were restored and refurbished into modern, high quality residential properties, maintaining their protected status.

This 65,000m² development is part of the landmark new urban campus Spencer Place, overlooking the River Liffey on Dublin’s North Wall Quay. As part of the project, PJ Hegarty restored and integrated the historic British & Irish Rail Building within the new Salesforce EMEA HQ, comprising over 39,000m² of LEED Platinum-certified office with three unique interconnecting nine-storey buildings above a triple basement. Ireland’s largest hotel group Dalata operates the new four-star, 204-bed Samuel Hotel on the campus. The project was carried out in a busy city centre environment requiring detailed coordination and liaison with neighbouring stakeholders, Dublin City Council and Transdev.

DP World, London Gateway Port

DP World’s London Gateway Port is one of the UK’s largest and busiest deep-sea container terminals saw PJ Hegarty develop enabling works and the full design and build of critical infrastructure within a highly sensitive, live operational environment. Our scope included extensions to both the terminal and amenities buildings, alongside the construction of a new four-storey office extension, which was completed to a high-specification fit out standard.

PJ Hegarty was involved in redeveloping the home of Munster Rugby, creating a new landmark for Limerick city. The project involved demolishing a stand and buildings, and building two new stands (East and West) without interrupting scheduled matches. The overall capacity was increased to 25,600, with a special effort made to preserve the close relationship between players and fans.

The Analog Devices Building is the award-winning flagship site for the Bernal Project built on the South Campus of the University of Limerick and completed in 2015. This groundbreaking science and engineering research facility is housed within a new four-storey structure, with a gross floor area measuring 7,650m² comprising state-of-the-art laboratories with research suites, write-up areas, meeting rooms, offices, and a 200-seat lecture theatre.
