Work began on the facility in October 2002, with dozens of specialist contractors involved in a highly coordinated construction schedule to deliver the plant on time for the slated opening date in September 2005. Construction required more than 15,000 tons of structural steel, almost 50,000m of process piping, 2,400 items of equipment, 8,000 engineering drawings and 1,200 specific validation protocols.
PJ Hegarty carried out architectural and structural works comprising all concrete floors in the facility, intermittent and sub-structural steel, stud partitioning, ceilings including walk-on ceilings, fire proofing, all floor finishes and raised access floors, all doors, joinery and decoration.
We were also responsible for full fit-out works to cleanrooms, production areas, laboratories and offices throughout the buildings, finished to the very highest standards required by the biopharmaceutical industry.
The facility was acquired by Pfizer in October 2009 and produces some of the company’s most important drugs, including the arthritis blockbuster Enbrel and the vaccine Prevenar.
