Celebrating Pride 2026

Throughout June, we celebrated Pride Month across our sites and offices with coffee mornings and the FREDIE campaign, which highlights the core values that guide how we work together every day: Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement.

Pride Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our colleagues and reaffirm our commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered to be themselves.

International Women in Engineering Day

This year, on International Women in Engineering Day, we are taking the opportunity to highlight some of the women who make a significant contribution to our business.

Everyday they drive progress and help shape the future of construction. We spoke to three of our engineers about what they enjoy most about working in the industry.

‘I enjoy the problem-solving side of engineering and the satisfaction that comes from finding the right solution. Seeing a design develop from an initial concept into a finished project is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.’ Jennifer Mitchell

‘I enjoy the collaborative aspect of the role. Bringing ideas, people and systems together to reach a shared design goal is incredibly fulfilling. Seeing the work come together successfully on site is a great reminder of how powerful and effective coordination and communication can be.’ Lauren Walsh

‘I love being in the thick of it. Working on site is fast paced and unpredictable. It’s a great way of learning how to manage obstacles and coordinate teams to keep the project moving. It is satisfying seeing a project come together from design to the finished product.’ Anne Marie Kelly

Supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Corporate Sports Day

On May 21st, we participated in the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Corporate Sports Day, competing alongside businesses from various industries in a day filled with friendly competition.

The competition included plenty of old-school favourites, including egg-and-spoon races, sack races, and tug of war, with everyone getting involved throughout the day.

Our partnership with Birmingham Children’s Hospital is very important to us, and we look forward to continuing our support for the vital work they do for children and families. We extend a big thank you to the organisers and everyone who participated in making the day so enjoyable.

Celebrating Apprentice Week

For National Apprentice Week, we’re highlighting the value of hands-on learning and how that experience supports development from day one, as well as the role mentors play in developing apprentices and the value mentoring brings. We hear from a Lewis , Managing Quantity Surveyor, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor Joseph and Logistics Coordinator Caydey on their experiences.

Lewis, Managing Quantity Surveyor tells us ‘Mentoring has strengthened my management skills by improving how I communicate technical information, helping me delegate routine commercial tasks more effectively, and encouraging me to reflect on how I perform a number of tasks. It’s also reinforced the importance of developing capable junior staff to support the wider commercial function.’

Supporting Mental Health at PJ Hegarty

At PJ Hegarty, we believe that looking after mental wellbeing is just as important as looking after physical health. We all come to work with our own experiences and challenges.

That’s why we have trained Mental Health First Aiders to make sure support is available and at the heart of our culture. Their role is to provide a confidential, approachable point of contact for anyone who may be struggling, feeling overwhelmed, or simply in need of a conversation.

They are trained to listen, offer guidance, and help you find the right support whenever you need it.

Hear from our Mental Health First Aiders about what the role means to them and why mental health support in the workplace matters.
